Appleseed		V,L	After WWIII, the world's governments create Olympus, a 'perfect' city governed by 'perfect' "Biodroids". More a paraphrase of the manga, the video isn't bad, but it doesn't represent the full magnatude of the story as it was written by Masamune Shirow. Character design by Yumiko Horasawa. Battle Angel		V,BN	Known in Japan as Gunnm, this is the story of Gally (Alita in the US manga), from her discovery by Cyber-Doctor Ido in the massive garbage dump under the floating city of Zalem (Tiphares in the US manga) to her reconstruction and rebirth in Scrap Iron City. Again, more a paraphrase of the original manga, by Yukito Kishiro. Only one tape/two episodes, due to a problem with funding of the project in Japan. Too bad, too...the manga is en EXCELLENT story, and MUCH longer than they even hint at in the video! Directed by Hiroshi Fukutomi. Character design by Nobuteru Yuki. Distributed by AD-Vision.
Bubblegum Crisis (OAV)		V,BN,L	The ORGINAL cyberpunk classic! Four women (in possession of some REALLY high-tech hardware) take on the world's largest corporation! This is the story of the Knight Sabers (sound familiar? ^_^) and their fight against the Genom Corporation, makers of Boomers, which are very large, very nasty, very destructive androids. The story takes place in the year 2032 in the city of MegaTokyo...since the Second Great Kanto Earthquake nearly destroyed the entire city just a few years prior, Genom has provided much of the reconstruction services through the use of it's Boomer technology...but not all Boomers are constructive! Greatly inspired by the movie Bladerunner, I've found that you can almost play the intros to BGC 1 and Bladerunner side by side...they look and sound that close! Created by Toshimichi Suzuki. Bubblegum Crash!		V	The continuation (of sorts) of the original BGC. It's...different... Genom isn't the bad guy, and Boomers are more like they were 'intended' to be...labor-saving devices...but they do have their problems. Instead, the Knight Sabers have been having a slow time, their services not being required for a while. But they move out against a mercenary group who wants to 'free' Boomers from their 'enslavement'. Distributed by AnimEigo.

The story of Noriko Takaya's life as it is affected by the ravages of mecha training, the loss of her father (a legendary space captain), time-displacement effect, and intergalactic war. Powerful. Gunsmith Cats		V,L	Bounty hunter/gunsmith Rally Vincent and her sidekick Minnie-May Hopkins track down illegal arms dealers in Chicago! Good artwork, LOTS of background work! I used to live in/around Chicago, and it looks authentic! Kenichi Sonoda's character designs. Distributed by AD-Vision.
Kiki's Delivery Service			This is a children's story, as most everything else done by Hayao Miyazaki. Kiki and her black cat, Jiji, leave home on the night of a full moon, embarking on a year of solo training in a distant city, as is the tradition for young witches. This story isn't so much about witches as it is about self-discovery and realizing your own potential, as Kiki learns for herself when her powers fade! US distribution with the voices of Kirsten Dunst, Phil Hartman, Matthew Lawrence, Janeane Garofalo, and Debbie Reynolds. Directed/designed by Hayao Miyazaki. Original story by Eiko Kadono. Distributed by Buena Vista Home Entertainment.
The New Adventures of Kimba the White Lion			Hmmm...what can I say about this anime? Ok, basically this is a modern adaptation (by the RIGHT people) of the classic Kimba stories created by Tezuka back in the 60's (?), which Disney...ahem...'borrowed'...for The Lion King. This one is DEFINITELY safe for the kids..."Recommended for viewers 3 and up." Sorry, no production notes on the case! I'll fill them in later, when I can find them... The Laughing Target		GV	Anime suspense/horror by Rumiko Takahashi. "When they were only six years old, Yuzuku and his cousin Azusa were betrothed in a marriage arranged by their parents. The two children swore an oath th become man and wife. Now ten years have passed, and people change." This is a different kind of story...it has elements of horror and suspense from a Japanese viewpoint, using traditional Japanese mythology. Also mentions something about demon possession. New Dominion Tank Police		L,V	Hmmm...cops in tanks...Overkill? You decide! Riding Bean		L,V	The first appearance of Rally Vincent in an anime, though she is an entirely different character in RB than she is in Gunsmith Cats (listed above). This is a story about Bean Bandit, a professional 'wheel-man'...that is, a driver-for-hire by anyone willing to pay his price. But this time, Bean and Rally find themselves in the middle of a kidnapping, having been tricked into the job by the REAL kidnappers, who intend to frame Bean and Rally for the kidnapping while they escape with the money! Story and character designs by Kenichi Sonoda, of Bubblegum Crisis fame. Distributed by AnimEigo
Robot Carnival		V	This is a collection of award-winning shorts collected by Kazafumi Nomura. The efforts of nine different animators are collected together in this one tape, including Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira), Hiroyuki Kitazumi, Mao Lamdo, Hiroyuki Kitakubo, Kouji Morimoto, Hideotoshi Ohmori, Yasuomi Umetsu, andTakashi Nakamura. Not much else to say, except that I recommend you see this! Distributed by Streamline Pictures.
Sol Bianca/Sol Bianca 2		L,BN,V	Sol Bianca is about five female space pirates and their ship, the Sol Bianca. After they hijack a cargo ship, they discover that they have also taken aboard a stowaway! This leads them on an adventure, seeking the most legendary treasure in the galaxy, the fabled "Gnosis". They also manage to overthrow a corrupt leader in the process! In Sol Bianca 2, the girls are trying to corner the market in pasha, a material more valuable than gold or platinum. But they have a little problem...they are being chased by the authorities (as usual), but they are also being chased by rival pirates! Story by Mayori Sekijima. Directed by Katsuhito Akiyama. Character designs by Naoyuki Onda. Mechanical designs by Atsushi Takeuchi. Distributed by AD-Vision.
My Neighbor Totoro			Two young girls, May and Satsuki, discover many magical secrets about their new house and the surrounding countryside. They discover a magical creature, called Totoro, who lives in a giant camphor tree just down the road from them! Follow them as they make friends with Totoro and his two smaller companions, as well as Catbus, who is exactly what he sounds like...a giant cat who looks like a multi-legged furry bus! Heartwarming and intelligent, it doesn't talk down to it's target audience like so many US animated films do, which I have found to be characteristic of Miyazaki's work. Warriors of the Wind		MV	I only mention this video here because I have seen the film it was ripped from, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, by Hayao Miyazaki. This particular version was an unauthorized, poorly executed dub of the original. The voices are slipshot at best, and it is obvious that they used the same people for more than one character; they also cut about 35 minutes of crucial story right out of the middle, which causes much of the movie to just not make much sense. Again, he manga version of this story goes into MUCH greater detail, and in some ways is almost a different story altogether, though there are common elements between them. Studio Ghibli, Miyazaki's animation studio, has officially announced that they would like the world to just forget Warriors of the Wind ever existed because the quality was so poor! It is a FAN site, not an official one, but they seem to have all the news on anything Miyazaki is up to, including current projects, past work, links, etc. An EXCELLENT resource!
